Industrial property: plan the handover before moving in

An industrial premises handover connects the property transaction with everyday operations. Planning the details early helps keep access, preparation works and communication organised.

Start with the operation you need to support

Describe how the premises will be used, the equipment or stock you expect to move and your preferred occupation date. Note vehicle access, loading arrangements, utilities and layout questions that need clarification.

Suitability and any approvals should be confirmed with the relevant parties. A viewing is a starting point for questions, rather than confirmation that every intended activity can proceed.

Agree what will be handed over

Clarify the handover condition, included fixtures, keys or access devices and any work to be completed before occupation. Arrange an inventory and condition record appropriate to the premises, with photos where permitted.

Record outstanding items and who will follow up on each one. A shared list gives the owner, occupier and coordinator a clear reference.

Coordinate contractors and access

If preparation work is needed, agree the scope, quotation and approval process before work begins. Confirm access arrangements, proposed work dates and any building requirements with the appropriate parties.
